It was great to be together again today in STRIDE! Students began by sharing what they learned about Descartes for homework. We reviewed the guidelines for the Creative Person Project. It's due next week! I can't wait for students to share.
Next we moved into science, testing the design strength of the triangle trusses students' constructed before break. We average results and drew conclusions. Lots of great connections were made to science concepts from this semester. Ask your child what he/she discovered today!
We summarized Descartes and his contributions on our MOG charts and students worked with his math ideas. They extended their knowledge of the coordinate plane, learning about the second, third, and fourth quadrants and practicing with negative numbers. "Billy Bug" was used to practice on Chromebooks and they began a plotting points assignment that they will finish for homework.
In Bridges, students met their fellow Bridge Company employees, named their companies, and learned the guidelines for the bridge building contest along with the bridge building code. Next, companies brainstormed the resources, materials, and labor it will take to construct their bridge, and after reviewing the "Warehouse Price List" they began how much it will cost to build. We will continue here next week.
Our first semester of STRIDE is quickly drawing to a close, and we will be finishing up all most of our units in the next two weeks and moving into new ones. Mystery Powders, Architecture, and From the Ground Up make up our second semester. We will also continue with Bridges. More details coming soon.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I hope your child is enjoying what we doing, being challenged, and growing as a learner and as a person.
