Today we picked up right where we left off last week in From the Ground Up. Students worked to find the area of their original floor plans and used this to estimate the cost of the ground floor and the ceiling.
Our MOG today focused on Louis Sullivan. Students worked through a Google Slide show to investigate his contributions, influence, and impact, then we shared and discussed together. I am so proud of them! They are really able to focus in on these areas and pull out details.
In Architecture students chatted in groups about adornment using their homework answers. Next we viewed students' columns and how they chose to represent themselves. Then it was a race through time as we covered architecture from pyramids to cathedrals. Ask your child what he/she remembers.
Students have been hired for their Bridge Company positions! Each company analyzed the resumes and job applications of another company and made recommendations for each position. Then Companies received their results and made the final decisions about each job. We discussed the terms "interdependent" and "division of labor" and how they relate to the companies. Next week comes "job training".
We ended our day in math reviewing scale and placing house plans on sites according to the building code.
Lunch was outside today. It was beautiful but a little windier than expected. Definitely the first day of March!
Our second field trip has been scheduled for Thursday, May 5th. This will be an architectural walking tour of Farmville. Please make plans to join us if you can! More details will come soon.
Finally, see below for some pictures of February in STRIDE!
