We began with Architecture. Students chatted about their new knowledge gained during homework with the glossary, their favorite features, and any they observed in their homes. Next we began work on an "Architecture Quick Guide". Students may use their glossaries and internet resources to draw a sketch to remind them of each. Color is encouraged but not required. They will complete these for homework.
The rest of our day (except for the Awards Assembly) was spent constructing roofs in From the Ground Up. We reviewed different types of roofs and discussed "nets". Students used rulers and compasses to construct a net for a pyramid hip roof. They drew tabs, cut them out, scored, and folded them. About half of the class is finished and has glued the roof onto the home. The rest of us will finish next week. For homework students will find the cost of the roof using the formula for the area of a triangle. Next week we'll all the pieces together and learn about the Dream Home project!
