The students are getting so great at identifying architectural features and styles! Pitt County architecture continued to be our focus. Using their homework, tables revisited each home and shared and evaluated the features they listed. They continued their practice by examining a few more Pitt County buildings and identifying features I LOVED listening to them! They sound like such experts! We ended this lesson by discussing if architecture is a form of creative expression with limitations. Interesting thoughts were shared! We also went over reminders for our field trip. It's next THURSDAY, May 5th, and it will be your child's STRIDE Day for the week. Please see the notes for additional information.
Bridge companies were in full operation today, and everyone has begun construction! Students are becoming more comfortable in their jobs and continuing to experience the positive and negative aspects of division of labor and specialization. Construction will continue next week
Finally, in science we focused on observation and chemical and physical properties and changes.
First, tables worked together to define the word "observe" and we came to group consensus about the definition. We analyzed "5 Rules for Observing" and talked about the difference between quantitative and qualitative data. Students practiced observation with an activity involving a white powder and vinegar. Ask your child what he/she observed. We ended with a deeper look at physial properties and changes. We will continue here next week, moving into chemical properties and changes.
We are on our last container of Clorox wipes and roll of paper towels and could use both to make it through the end of May.
The only homework for the next two weeks is to work on the House project. Students can come by and see me or email me if they have any questions.
