Our day began with a virtual Farmville field trip. Fortunately, one of the STRIDE teachers took lots of pictures on a previous tour and put together a slide show with the tour information. Students worked through the slide show, read the chaperone script, and identified architectural features. Though not as great as the walking tour, they seemed excited and engaged.
We reviewed the Dream Home guidelines one final time, I answered questions, and students received a paper for composing a written "description" to accompany their homes next week. Our Parade of Homes will be held next Tuesday, 5/10, at 9:00.
The rest of our morning was spent in bridges. Companies worked diligently to complete their flat bridge pieces. One company started putting their bridge together! We learned about the concept of inflation today as lumber prices rose due to an overturned lumber truck and a decreased supply. Ask your child about it. Our bridge break will be on our final STRIDE day, May 24th and parents are invited to attend!
I gave the children some extra free time today in the time we would have had after the field trip. There was lots of Minecrafting going on, as well as other technology explorations...definitely some great strategy and thinking. We also had special treats of freeze pops and brownies. All in all, it turned out to be a great day in spite of the trip disappointment. But I'm not surprised...every day is a great day in STRIDE!
