In Latin we learned about nouns and verbs. I hope this was review. :) Parts of speech are very important in Latin. We watched two School House Rock clips and interacted with SMART Board activities to practice identifying nouns and verbs in sentences.
Vincent van Gogh was the focus of our Moment of Genius today. Students summarized what we learned about him over the past two weeks. Next we investigated several links on the Symbaloo together. Ask your child about the "van Gogh field". It was so cool! We ended with a discussion about next week when we will paint like van Gogh, reviewing his techniques. Students shared their sketches with a partner for feedback. For homework they will do more research about his painting techniques. Also, you may want to send an old shirt next week as a cover up. We'll be working with acrylic paint.
I read the books The Dot and Ish by Peter Reynolds to students and they made connections to having a growth mindset in Matters of the Heart. Ask your child about it. Next students worked on "What Can I Say to Myself?", thinking of positive self talk to replace fixed mindset phrases. I was so impressed with their discussion and insight!
We had a Franklin Finding about $2 bills today. It was so cool how what they learned from the presentation sparked so many more questions and really peaked their curiosity! One student accepted last week's paper challenge in science. We tested her creation, and it was successful!
We didn't get to check our ledger homework because we ran out of time but we will definitely get to it next week.
Homework this week:
1. Math: even larger Babylonian numbers.
2. Latin: noun and verb practice
3. van Gogh painting technique research and planning
