Our day began with Marketing. Students shared the print ads they created for homework, first with their Marketing Firms. Then we walked around and explored them all. I saw some really creative ideas and lots of persuasion tactics! Next we focused on billboards and business cards. We went "speeding through the billboards" with students having five seconds to gather information from several billboards just like they were riding down the road. Students viewed several additional billboards and analyzed them for attention-getters and following good tips for billboard design. Then we moved to business cards, viewing the top ten creative business cards. Students investigated the business cards they brought in and others, looking for attention getting examples and information included. Finally, Marketing Firms met together to decide who would create each type and to begin planning. Students will finish planning and complete the final ad for homework.
Our Probability lesson today involved games of chance. Students played Coin Toss and Roller Derby to investigate fairness and strategy. Ask your child about it! We will continue this lesson next time.
We saw some magical Rubik's Cube tricks and Chinese money during Franklin Findings time and enjoyed the warm weather during recess. Students voted to watch The Polar Express as their Marble Jar Christmas movie and decided they would like to have a few treats other than popcorn. Not everyone likes it. :-) I asked them to chat with you if they would like to bring something, and we will finalize next week.
And last but not least, I revealed that we will be going on a field trip to the Morehead Planetarium on March 30th! I am so excited about this trip! We will see a planetarium show involving Galileo, participate in a Discovery Class about the solar system, and see a Science Live show about Phenomenal Physics! The cost will be $12 per person, and permission slips will come home in January.
