A "notebook check" was next. We made sure that the homework tab is first in the binder and added the "Check It Out!" sheet for recording assignments. I introduced our STRIDE Google Classroom and all the students signed up. This is a great place for me to post assignments and for students to chat with each other about what they're learning. Your child has an information sheet and a contract to review for homework.
I planned an extra special team building activity today. We had a visit from Mrs. Boucher, Instructional Technology Specialist for PCS, who did a Breakout EDU game with the students. It's based on the idea of an escape room, except in this case students are trying to break in to a box by unlocking locks. This required critical thinking, teamwork, and complex problem solving. It was fascinating to watch and listen to the children and their interactions.
Our last activity involved a discussion about three of my wall signs: "Excellence-It's in the details!" "Excellence is not an act. It's a habit" and "If you don't have time to do it right, you must have time to do it over". We had our first practice with "excellence" as students worked on an Auto Bio Poem. They will complete these next week and we'll share.
Homework this week:
1. Google Classroom: Read the letter together and sign the contract
2. Selfie Project: Students will create an album or presentation using the guidelines on the sheet. I told them that a posterboard display is also acceptable.
3. Return your Boomerang Envelope if you didn't already.
Thanks so much for any supplies you've sent!
See below for a few photos from today. I'm looking forward to next week!
