Our morning was spent on Roller Coaster Physics. We began with a review of Newton's First Law and other vocabulary we've learned by completing a SMART Board activity. Next students used a pulley board and weights to investigate Newton's Second Law through two different experiments. Unfortunately, we had to have a "Mrs. Howard lecture" during this time about following directions and working with excellence at STRIDE level, but they turned it around and ended by doing a great job. We will complete this lesson next week with two more experiments.
Next we moved into Marketing. Students shared their billboard and business card creations with Marketing Firms and then toured all the firms, offering feedback and observing the creativity! Next we focused on product packaging using the VIEW Model for evaluating packaging. Students analyzed various packages and completed an activity on target audiences with cereal boxes. Ask your child to tell you what she/he learned about packaging and about the "pudding trick". For homework students will think through the VIEW Model for their firm's productand plan the package for their product. They should draw all views of the package. Creating it is optional. Firms will share and analyzed these next week and make final decisions.
Our Moments of Genius lesson today focused on the book What Do You Do With An Idea? and the steps a person might go through to have a moment of genius. Students brainstormed and discussed steps, then I read the book without showing the pictures and we related it to our thoughts on the sequence. Finally, I reread the book showing the pictures and we discussed how they metaphorically represented the steps. It was great!
The product package design is the only homework this week. Your child has Marble Jar information letter and has volunteered to bring something for our celebration on 12/21. Please feel free to email or call if you have questions. Thanks for your support!
