Roller Coaster Physics began this STRIDE day. First students shared their homework at their tables, having the other students identify the Law for each given example. Next we checked "Predict the Motion" and "Which Law Is It?" with students explaining and justifying their answers. They made it look simple! We used iTouches to play a Kahoot! game to review physics vocabulary, and then it was on to Rocket Cars! Students worked diligently to plan, build, test, and revise their cars. It proved to be more challenging than it looked in our example, but they all persevered and kept making modifications to improve their cars. See below for some photos of their great work.
We learned about the chromatic number in Discrete Math and continued numbering maps to find the chromatic number of each. Ask your child to explain. Coloring is optional, as the important part is being able to determine the fewest colors you can use. These math wizards are whipping right through it! They will continue this for homework with the challenging USA map.
Marketing finished out our day. After sharing advantages and disadvantages of TV Commercials and websites, we moved on to promotional items and QR codes. Students analyzed examples of promotional items, some collected from real businesses and others created by previous STRIDE students. They used iTouches to practice scanning QR codes. I used some Shark Tank clips to introduce the "Product Pitch Palooza". Marketing Firms began a board meeting to decide which advertisements do the best job of marketing their fictional products. We will pick up here next week with firms completing a plan for sharing this advertising "pitch" with the class. We're close to wrapping up our Marketing study.
Math is the only homework this week. Some students need to finish "A Colorful Pie". All students will number and find the chromatic number for the USA map. Also, due to the teacher workday on Wednesday, we will have STRIDE on Monday, January 23rd.
