We reviewed theoretical and experimental probability in math, then students flipped coins and recorded data to solve Kalvin's cereal problem. They calculated percentages, created a line graph, and of course, had lots of fun tossing pennies. We had a great discussion then closed with a few more examples. Ask your child to tell you what we discovered. For homework students will apply what we learned to solve some problems.
In Roller Coaster Physics we reviewed the Scientific Method and investigated the various names the steps might be labeled. Students practiced by matching synonymous names in a SMART Board activity. We also sang the "Scientific Method Song". Ask your child about it. Finally, students created their science journals that we will be using throughout the unit.
Our Moment of Genius introduction was also completed today. Students analyzed four additional quotes about genius and added to their Tree Maps of characteristics and behaviors. I showed them a word cloud I made with the words they listed last week and modeled how to create one. They will have the opportunity to create a word cloud during warm up next week, but the website is posted in the Google Classroom in case they want to give it a try before then.
We ended our day with a little bit of Marketing Bingo. Today students used their definitions, but next time we'll leave them in our binders, so they may want to study a little home. Math is the only required homework this week. :)
