Marketing was next, and today's lesson was about target audiences. Students examined magazine covers, suggesting demographics of the target audience and the types of advertisements they would expect to see. Next we moved into analyzing products for target audiences. I modeled how to make "Decisions of An Advertising Executive" with The Price Is Right, and then students worked together to choose a television program, determine the target audience, and analyze which products should be advertised during this show and why. Teams shared their programs and products with each other and then we debriefed. Finally, students gathered in their Marketing Firms and selected the "client" for their marketing campaigns. The advertising creation is about to begin! Ask your child to tell you all about the client and product his or her firm selected. Homework this week is to watch TV! Students should watch a 30 minute show and record the commercials they see and how long for each. They have a handout to guide them in this assignment.
In Matters of the Heart we learned about developing a Growth Mindset instead of having a Fixed Mindset. Students watched and discussed a short animation to help them understand the differences. Next they worked in teams to classify statements according to the mindset type. They did so well! This will continue to be a theme throughout the year as it is so crucial to students' success and perseverance. Their homework is to share some "tips" with you. You can see the clip we watched below.
I can't wait for next week!
