We had a fantastic day ALL day today!
The first part of our morning was focused on our FIELD TRIP! Students have a page of reminders that I asked be shown to you right away. We have been over them all and talked about them in depth. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call. I think it's going to be the best field trip ever!
In Architecture we used students' homework to go deeper into the architecture introduction, investigating how it is a visual art and what skills an architect needs to be successful. I was so impressed with their fluency and flexibility in their answers! Next students explored "form follows function" from Louis Sullivan, applying this idea to various structures. Finally we moved into adornment, viewing many different structures and analyzing how and why we adorn. For homework, students will think more about adornment and adorn a column of their own to represent themselves, including what they value.
Using scale and creating floor plans were the focus of From the Ground Up. We viewed the building code for the model houses and students created the original floor plans for the houses they will construct. After a peer review and a review by the building inspector most of these were finalized. A few students will complete them for homework.
As we wrote down that our homework would be due on 3/14, "That's Pi Day!" rang out from the classroom. Next I was reminded that it is also Einstein's birthday and certainly we should celebrate. So...we will! They're so creative and so convincing. Your child has a letter with more details.
Homework this week:
1. Show you the reminders.
2. Bring all your field trip items for the trip on TUESDAY. This will be our STRIDE day for the week. Students will not need binders.
3. Complete the adornment questions and decorate your column. Due 3/14
4. If needed, complete your floor plan. Due 3/14
5 Optional: bring a circular snack to celebrate Pi Day on 3/14.
Also, several of you have asked about camps this summer. I am doing four camps with my colleagues. I hope you got the flyer through PeachJar, but just in case, you can get more information HERE or by visiting www.brightbrainsllc.weebly.com . Please feel free to email or call if you have questions. I'm so excited!
