We had quite a day full of excitement! Students began their morning finalizing their floor plans, reading letters from Grandma Stamps, writing her back, and creating thank you cards for our field trip. Next students shared all the connections the could make between field trip activities and our STRIDE curriculum.
In Architecture we reviewed adornment by discussing the questions students completed for homework. We had a walk around view of students' columns. They were so creative! Many students chose to have them displayed in the hallway.
And then, there was a knock on the door and our visit from "It's A Zoo Life" began. It was such a fantastic opportunity! Students were able to interact with a kangaroo, two tortoises, a chinchilla, a dwarf rabbit, and a hedgehog and learn more about them. Check out the photos below. Learn more about a visit at http://www.itsazoolife.com/ .
We ended our day with Bridges. Students formed bridge companies and created company names. Next we dissected the bridge building contest rules and bridge building codes. Students learned about "capital" as it relates to businesses. They used the Warehouse Price List to generate an estimate of how much capital they will need to build their bridges according to the rules and codes. There were some high estimates! We ended with a look at the cooperation rules.
For homework students will complete an Architecture MOG on Louis Sullivan. They also may create a logo for their bridge company. This is optional.
Thanks for your support of today's activities and to Mrs. Williford for arranging the visit!
