From the Ground Up...that's exactly what we did for the rest of the day. Only they're almost "up". First students returned to work with their walls from last week, calculating the area and the cost and then transferring all cost information for walls, ceilings, and floors to the "final cost estimate" form. A little landscaping time was worked in as well. Next we moved on to roof construction. We reviewed different types of roofs and discussed "nets". I modeled all the steps and then students got to work, using rulers and compasses to construct a net for a pyramid hip roof. Only two houses are completed, but the rest are VERY close. We will finish them next week for sure!
We ended our day by going over the "Dream Home" project. At home, students will construct a house of their choosing, a "Dream House". They have a letter with all the guidelines and homework this week is to do a sketch and make a materials list so no one can procrastinate too much. :) You will notice that there are many different options for creating the project...lots of room for creativity. I will answer any questions next week in class or students may stop by or email me. This project is due on May 23rd, our last STRIDE day.
Homework this week:
1. Write to Grandma Stamps! The Daily Reflector article and photos are posted in the Google Classroom.
2. Dream House: Do a sketch, make a materials list, and have your parent sign the letter.
