First we reviewed van Gogh's color schemes and used Google Maps to compare places today with places he painted. Next students used "Touch van Gogh" on the iPads to explore textures, lines, and paint in his artwork further. I reviewed painting "rules" and the color wheel, and then they were off! We listened to Mozart while students mixed colors, tried various brushes, and turned their sketches into their own van Goghish masterpieces. I SO enjoyed hearing the discussion as they shared painting and color mixing tips with each other while they worked. It was quite the artist's studio. And their paintings are so wonderful! See below for some photos of the day as well as their paintings.
In Construction Concepts we revisited Build #2 and students reconstructed with modifications. This time we tested with TWO dictionaries. Ask your child about it. Lots of great ideas were shown and vocabulary used!
Painting took most of our day. We squeezed in Table of the Month rewards, AR celebrations, lunch, recess, and Franklin Findings. Most students also spent a bit of time work on "A Secret Club" learning about Pythagoras. For homework this week, students will:
1. Add van Gogh to the MOG Chart.
2. Complete "A Secret Club". Be sure to read carefully and use a calculator to help.
