A "notebook check" came next. We made sure that the homework tab is first in the binder and added the "Check It Out!" sheet for recording assignments. We also added a copy of our Influence generalizations for reference throughout the year and a Franklin Findings form. I introduced our STRIDE Google Classroom and everyone signed up. This is a great place for me to post assignments and for students to chat with each other about what they're learning. Your child has an information sheet and a contract to review for homework. If you added your email to the info sheet, expect an invite for you to join soon!
Groups briefly defined and discussed "Excellence is in the details," relating it to school work and life. This was an introduction to their MOH (Matters of the Heart) homework assignment: The Selfie Project. Students will create an album or digital presentation using the questions on the sheet to guide them. This is their first chance this year to really display their creativity! Sharing these will help us get to know each other even more next week.
Finally, in Greek Forum students were introduced to Ancient Greece. They participated in a SMART Notebook activity that detailed many Greek contributions to our every day life today. We discussed BC/BCE and AD/CE to aid our understanding of time. Next students worked in teams to place historical events on a timeline and place the Greek civilization in history. This was a challenging activity, but students did great! I enjoyed listening to their discussion and reasoning. Next week students will form Greek families and choose Greek names!
Homework this week:
1. Google Classroom: Read the letter together and sign the contract
2. Complete the Selfie Project
3. Return your Boomerang Envelope if you didn't already.
Thanks so much for any supplies you've sent!
See below for a few photos from the timeline activity. I'm looking forward to next week!
