Next we moved into our Greek families. We zoomed in on trading, social classes, and education in Ancient Greece, organizing information learned on Tree Maps and testing their knowledge with a SMART Board activity. Students on both STRIDE days had many questions about citizenship and social classes. We researched and found a few answers, but your child may want to investigate more. We explored the Greek alphabet and how it corresponds with our English letters. We viewed several resources in the Google Classroom to help with the Greek alphabet and learned a "story" to help us to remember the letters in order. Ask your child to tell you about the Lambdas and "Oh my corn!" :) We took a look at Ancient Greek vases: their designs, the different types, and their uses. Students spun a SMART Board spinner to select a myth and chose a vase. For homework each will read the myth, create a sketch of an illustration for a significant part of the myth, and color their vases with red crayons. There are details and Greek border examples in the Google Classroom. Next time we will paint these black and students will etch their illustrations and create a museum exhibit card. I can't wait for you to see how cool they will turn out!
Thank you to everyone who returned the "Student Release" for my National Boards videotaping. PLEASE forgive me for not filling in the information for you that I could have. I sent it straight to the copier without even thinking. If you didn't get a chance to sign it last week, please return it as soon as possible.
It's hard to believe that next week is Thanksgiving. I am thankful for the opportunity to teach your children and for your great support!!! I hope you and your family have a wonderful and joyous Thanksgiving holiday and break!
