Invention Convention was up next. We continued to develop our schema for what an invention is and is not. Students went on an invention walk around the school, recording inventions, the problems they solved, and how school was changed because of each. They completed a Frayer model vocabulary graphic organizer to solidify their understanding and ended with an analysis of inventions at home. LOTS of higher level thinking and questioning were evident! We ended with the Invention Log, learning about Daniel Drawbaugh and how he lost the telephone patent to Alexander Graham Bell. Ask your child about it!
We learned Χαίρετε! the Greek word for hello this week. Students shared the meanings of their Greek names with their families and started trying to remember to call each other by them. Then we continued learning about the Ancient Greek culture by viewing a DVD. Students took notes on a Circle Map to define Ancient Greece and then worked together as families to categorize and classify these notes on a group Tree Map.
Also for homework students will work through an introduction to the Moment of Genius. We will use their thoughts in class next time.
