We checked students' Probability Brainpop homework and worked through questions together at the board. Next we moved into Invention Challenge 1. Students had five minutes to brainstorm, then 10 minutes to build and record. There were some interesting ideas and creations. We reviewed the Invention Logs as well. These are always for homework. Students should be gathering ideas for problems they might want to solve. For homework they will do some invention brainstorming in preparation for next week.
We spent a large block of time on our Influence generalizations, or "points to ponder". We talked about each, what the words meant individually and collectively, students shared opinions in small groups, and then each recorded his/her own answer for the beginning of the year. Our brains were really stretched! Some students were more comfortable than others with sharing in the group, but overall I thought they did a great job. I can't wait to read their answers.
MOG used homework. Will complete next week.
In our MOG (Moment of Genius) introduction, students shared who they consider to be a genius and why. Next groups analyzed different quotes about genius and created Tree Maps to classify genius characteristics and actions. We will complete part two of the quotes next week. Finally, we learned and practiced singing the MOG song! Ask your child about it and maybe he/she will sing it for you!
